Meet Sheri
Sheri Johnson, LMFT, is a Black Kansan with Mississippi roots. She has lived in Southern California since 2002 and has worked at a residential treatment facility before attending school at National University to earn an M.S. in Educational Counseling and later obtained an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy specializing in African American Family Studies at Pacific Oaks College. Sheri's post-secondary clinical work has worked in two Los Angeles community health agencies serving children, adolescents, adults, and elders. In both agencies, Sheri served BIPOC, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, young professionals, single parents, and folks affected by substance use and recovery. Receiving culturally specific training has assisted her personal and professional compass on dismantling white supremacy by creating healing and affirming therapeutic spaces specifically for Black people and Non-Black People of Color. In her free time, Sheri enjoys watching documentaries, browsing the new book section of various public libraries, or doing an acceptable two-step to golden era R&B and Hip Hop.
Audre Lorde wrote, “We have been raised to fear the yes within ourselves…” My practice is rooted in supporting people to explore, reconnect with, and integrate new approaches to diminish self-doubt, isolation, and excessive worry by tapping into their inner “YES.” In order to do this, I utilize a strengths-based, anti-racist, and womanist framework to assist folks in re-connecting with their wisdom and their knowing- their first mind.
